fThe film is distributed by “Columbia Pictures”, showing that the film will be very adventurous and rewarding as it’s from such a well known production company. The music used in the opening scene, is very Hawaiian and tropical the type of music you would expect to be associated with the beach and surfing. This links in with the setting of where the opening is taking place. The Hawaiian themed music then continues throughout the conversations taking place, while people are explaining their romantic Hawaiian holidays.
(0.29) Shades of light pinks and reds are used for the lighting, connoting the romance and passion that could have taken place, or foreshadowing the romance that will follow in the film. Blues are also used, which is a very natural colour linking to the sea being God’s creation so is very natural. Blue can also be seen as being a very calming colour, which fits in with the pace of the music used and also the effect of the sea on the beach.
The opening credits, of the actors/producers fade out likes waves, again linking back to the surroundings being water and the Hawaiian themed music.
(0.48) The title of the film appears on the screen, where the audience see the three different colours that are used. First the “50” is in red, connoting the romance, and passion that will be seen in the film between the leading couple. Then the “First” is in blue, suggesting the calmness of the relationship they will have, then the last word being “Dates” is white, which connotes innocence and peacefulness which could link to the time the couple will spend with on another.
(0.52) We then see a trail of women telling their friends/family about the romantic holiday they had in Hawaii, linking back to the theme of romance and lust. The audience recognise that the stories that all the women are telling are very familiar. We then hear the name of the man theyare all talking about, which is the same male, the typical stereotype of a “Ladies Man” wooing as many women as he can.
